Murmurations — Live at the Barbican
Murmurations
Saam Farahmand
Chris Parks shot the in-camera fluid effects for Murmurations — Live at the Barbican (2018, directed by Saam Farahmand).
Simian Mobile Disco performed Murmurations in full at the Barbican with the Deep Throat Choir on 4 April 2018, produced by the Barbican with Convergence. Director Saam Farahmand approached Chris to film organic fluid effects to complement SMD’s analog electronic music. Chris and his team worked from their studio in central London where they had three parallel setups. They created their fluid paintings live in their specialised glassware, sending them down an HD link to the main screen behind the band and choir.
Chris Parks Studio on the show: Chris Campkin, Rob Hollingworth, India Renziehausen and Paul Douglas.
Featuring Live Fluid Art by Chris Parks and Saam Farahmand — microscopic fluid paintings, transmitted to the Barbican from a Central London laboratory with support from The Mill.
Parks and Farahmand’s dazzling projections shapeshift sometimes like cells dividing, and sometimes like stars exploding. It is, in short, transcendently stunning.
